St Peter’s Heart is a Kindergarten to Year 6 school for students diagnosed with mild to moderate (Level 1 or 2) Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or mild to moderate Intellectual Disability. To meet our enrolment criteria, applicants must be able to provide recent documented evidence (within past 12 months) of a diagnosis of either Level 1 or Level 2 Autism Spectrum Disorder and/or mild to moderate Intellectual Disability from a medical professional qualified to make the diagnosis. Students with a combination of Level 2 and Level 3 Autism Spectrum Disorder will be considered at the discretion of the school.
St Peter’s Heart is co-located on the grounds of St Peter’s Anglican Grammar in Campbelltown. St Peter’s Heart classrooms are inclusively located near St Peter’s Anglican Grammar classrooms. There is a quiet playground space for St Peter’s Heart students, and they may also access the shared playground and learning spaces of St Peter’s Anglican Grammar.
We currently have three small classes. Each class has a Teacher and a Teacher Assistant. All students at St Peter’s Heart have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) developed in consultation with parents/carers. The IEPs outline adjustments and strategies that will assist in supporting students’ communication, learning, participation and safety, personal care and/or health care, movement, and other areas of their schooling and development. Students are taught using the same NSW curriculum and syllabus as any other primary classroom. Adjustments to learning are only made when they are necessary for the individual student.
One of the key aspects of ‘two schools – one learning community’ is the possibility of integration between St Peter’s Anglican Grammar and St Peter’s Heart, creating an inclusive and diverse educational community which greatly enhances whole life learning. Student integration will be encouraged and supported on a case-by-case basis where it is appropriate and beneficial for students.
Each class can accommodate approximately 7-10 students with a Teacher and Teacher Assistant. The class size is dependent on a number of factors and is at the discretion of the Principal.
